Let's see, last time I wrote in this journal, I was working on inking the "Female Gojyo" drawing--I did manage to finish the inking without my hands shaking too much. Then, I even managed to paint it! Wow, I have been productive recently. Now, that does have to do with being manic--I am trying to control the mania, but while I am manic, I might as well get some things done too.

Here is the progression of "Female Gojyo", from sketch to finished painting



Now, I am also working on a few more illustrations inspired from various places.

"Angry Subaru V.2" is a picture of Subaru, glaring angrily into the mirror.

Subaru V.2 is from a Tokyo Babylon/X/1999 fanfic-story by ~tanuki-dono named Illusory Tandem ~ a super excellent story. If you are a fan of complex relationship between the 13th head of the Sumeragi Clan, Sumeragi Subaru, and the emotionless assassin called the Sakurazukamori, Sakurazuka Seichiro, then this is a must read!

I did a rough sketch to start. I haven't refined it to smooth lines like I did with the "Female Gojyo" and I don't think I will.



I think I will transfer the rough drawing to the watercolor paper first and then maybe refine it or just start painting.

I started coloring a copy of my drawing--trying to get an idea about how the colors would work together. For this drawing, I started with the eyes, because to this Subaru, his eyes are the most defining part of his body. His mismatched eyes define who this Subaru is and how his emotions work.

People always say that the eyes are the doorway to the soul, or something like that. To me personally, eyes are eyes, and change according to the light source. I have an absolute horrible time reading people's faces. So, I always start with the eyes, not because they show emotions or the soul or whatever else, but because the eyes are the most physically defining part of the face. For me, drawing a face begins with the eyes. So, when I started coloring the sketch, I naturally began there.

When I finished the eyes, I just thought WOW! The contrast between the mismatched eyes just stood out, so I had to scan it in to perserve it.



And, yes, the eyes are angry-looking, because of the way the eyelid and eyebrow are drawn down to change the shape of the eye.

I finished coloring the sketch with my watercolor pencils and it turned out OK--I think I need to add more hair. I'm not sure if painting this drawing will allow me to get the look I want, so I might not go any further than this colored drawing.




Ahhhhh, I was going to keep going, but I feel horrible, so this is going to have to be the end of this entry, for know at least.

Progress on the ~fireandice-club Contest III ~ Post-HBP: Aftermath.

The premise for this contest is that the events in The Half-Blood Prince have concluded, which leaves Draco who knows where. The challenge (that's a good word for it) is to show Draco and Ginny interacting, hopefully with a back story about how they got there.

So far there is only one entry and the contest deadline is August 31.

I know I am working on my entry, so I hope others are also. I look forward to seeing the other entries.
